DOJ sues Peter Navarro over emails

The Justice Division sued former Trump adviser Peter Navarro in a bid to take possession of emails from throughout his time within the White Home.

The lawsuit claims that Navarro used a private electronic mail account to conduct enterprise that concerned presidential information and, as such, he should flip over these emails as they're the rightful property of the Nationwide Archives.

"Mr. Navarro is wrongfully retaining Presidential information which are the property of the USA, and which represent a part of the everlasting historic file of the prior administration," the lawsuit states. "Mr. Navarro’s wrongful retention of Presidential information violates District of Columbia regulation, federal widespread regulation, and the [Presidential Records Act]."

Navarro's attorneys, John Irving and John Rowley, denied withholding paperwork from the federal government.

"As detailed in our latest letter to the Archives, Mr. Navarro instructed his legal professionals to protect all such information, and he expects the federal government to observe customary processes in good religion to permit him to supply information. As a substitute, the federal government selected to file its lawsuit right this moment," they stated in a press release despatched to Politico.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court docket in Washington, D.C., is the most recent in a slew of public battles between the previous Trump adviser and U.S. authorities.
