Russia has modified the Kalashnikov AK-12 weapon its forces use in Ukraine to hurry up firing and provides troopers extra management over firing modes, RIA state information company reported early on Wednesday, citing the weapon maker's president.

The AK-12 model, which entered service in 2018, can have its two-round burst cut-off disabled and can have a two-way management of firing modes, in addition to an adjustable cheek relaxation, Kalashnikov Concern's President Alan Lushnikov advised RIA.

"Within the shortest attainable time, we chosen technical options, made a prototype and demonstrated it to representatives of the Russian Ministry of Protection," Lushnikov mentioned.

He didn't say when the modernised weapon will enter service, saying solely that it's within the design documentation stage.
